Good practice case study

Barcelona Cultural Industries Cluster, Spain

The Interarts Foundation in Spain has engineered local policy support for the value of creative industries as a viable alternative to traditional models of job creation and as a potential engine for growth. The Foundation develops cluster projects based on the idea that culture incubator projects are traditional sources of jobs and can be an alternative in areas where the manufacturing base has been lost. They also follow a policy trend by which creativity and innovation are encouraged through the creative industries sector.

The project has demonstrated how important it is to create spaces in which creative activities can be developed in an indigenous way and also how essential wide networks are for the cluster to become sustainable. The project has also succeeded to produce a change in the mentality of the local stakeholders; a mentality that is more open to see the role and potential of the creative industries in the economy.
